How to Leave a Legacy Gift

1. Talk to Your Lawyer or Financial Advisor: Discuss your intention to include a gift in your will with your lawyer or financial advisor. They can help you understand your options and ensure that your wishes are accurately reflected in your estate plans.

2. Decide on the Type of Gift: There are several ways you can leave a legacy gift, including:

• A gift in your will:

• A specific dollar amount or asset

• A percentage of your estate 

• The residue of your estate (after other bequests have been fulfilled)

• Naming AEL Advocacy as the beneficiary on any of the following:

​​

• Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)

• Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF)

• Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)

• Life Insurance Policies

3. Include the Necessary Information: To include AEL Advocacy in your will, you will need the following details:  ​

• Our Canadian Registered Charity Number :  76952 0404 RR0001

 

Below is some suggested wording that you can use in your will:

​I bequeath to AEL ADVOCACY (also known as Animal Environmental Legal Advocacy) Registered Charity Number  76952 040 RR0001, ([the sum of  ___] or [___ % of the residue of my estate]) for the general purposes of the said AEL Advocacy, and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other Authorized Officer to receive this legacy shall be a sufficient discharge therefor.

4. Notify Us (Optional): If you feel comfortable, please let us know about your planned gift. This allows us to thank you and ensure your legacy is honoured appropriately.
