Programs & Campaigns

Food System Reform

AEL Advocacy recognizes the crucial role of plant-based diets in alleviating animal suffering, mitigating environmental destruction, upholding workers' rights, and improving public health. We advocate for a food system that prioritizes the well-being of animals, people, and the planet.

Fighting for a just, compassionate, and sustainable food system.

Our Work:

  • Policy & Law Reform: We advocate for stronger laws that protect animals, safeguard the environment, and promote a more just and sustainable food system.

  • Legal Action: We take legal action against corporations that exploit animals, harm ecosystems, and endanger communities in the food system.

  • Legal Support & Representation: We provide legal assistance to advocates and organizations fighting for a more just, compassionate, and sustainable food system.

  • Public Education: We empower communities with knowledge about the legal and ethical issues surrounding industrial animal agriculture.

A just food system is possible. Join us in the fight for a #FairFoodFuture.

Rights of Nature

Championing the rights of animals and the environments where they live.

Through advocacy, law reform, and public outreach, AEL Advocacy is dedicated to securing legal personhood for animals and upholding the rights of nature. By challenging the traditional boundaries of the legal system, we aim to ensure that animals and the environment are recognized as legal persons deserving of rights and protections.

Our Work:

  • Fighting for Animals and the Environment in Court: AEL Advocacy ensures that the interests of animals and the environment are represented in legal proceedings.

  • Pushing for Laws That Recognize Animal and Environmental Rights and Personhood: We are actively engaged in law reform at local, national, and international levels. We work to change laws and policies to recognize animals and nature as legal persons with the right to exist, thrive, and flourish.

Access to Justice

As a public interest, not-for-profit organization, AEL Advocacy cares about access to justice. We provide free legal advice and representation to clients in Ontario who would otherwise be unable to afford legal assistance.

Tackling access to justice in animal and environmental law.

Our Work:

  • Free Inquiry Service: Our free Animal and Environmental Law Inquiry Service offers legal support to low-income individuals, community groups, charities, and not-for-profit organizations facing animal and environmental issues in Ontario.

  • Empowering Communities: By offering pro-bono legal services, we empower individuals, communities, and organizations striving to protect animals and their habitats. Our legal support ensures that animal and environmental advocates can exercise their rights safely and effectively.
